By Air
Five airlines, Qantas, Jetstar, Virgin Blue, Tiger Airways and Regional Air Express, operate regular daily jet services between mainland Australia and Tasmania.
A wide variety of flight times are available for delegates throughout the day.
Frequent scheduled direct flights cross Bass Strait daily from Melbourne (approx one hour), Sydney (approx two hours) and Brisbane (approx three hours) to Tasmania’s major centres of Hobart, Launceston, Burnie and Devonport.
Convenient connections from international hubs and all other Australian states are also available.
Internal flights within Tasmania are available between Hobart and Burnie airports and depending on the number of delegates, a variety of aircraft, including helicopters, are available to charter between intrastate destinations.
A range of attractive promotional fares is offered by all airlines throughout the year. Most airlines offer special discounts for conference groups.
Business Events Tasmania recommends business events' organisers contact the airlines directly to discuss delegate rates.
By Sea
Delegates and conference organisers may also enjoy the opportunity to experience sea travel.
Delegates can travel from Melbourne to Tasmania with their cars on Spirit of Tasmania.
On board, a range of accommodation options is available and entertainment options abound including restaurants, bars, lounges, a children’s playroom and a visitor information office.
Event organisers may even like to begin their business event onboard!
Of particular benefit to delegates is the ability to bring their own cars to Tasmania, providing the perfect opportunity for pre and post-conference touring.
The Melbourne service departs Melbourne nightly at 9pm and arrives in Devonport (in northern Tasmania) at 7am the following morning.
On the Island
Transport around Tasmania is readily available. In the city centres, most conference venues are in easy walking distance of shops, restaurants and attractions.
Private transfers by chauffeured car, coach and limousine are reasonably priced and readily available, as is transport by a variety of modes on the waterways.
Public transport in the form of taxis and buses is reliable and of a high quality.
