28-Feb-2011 | Business Events Tasmania has two new board members – Peter Collyns, Regional General Manager Tasmania for Qantas, and Claire Ellis, Director Infrastructure and Industry Development Tourism Tasmania.Claire joins the Board as the Tourism Tasmania representative, replacing Felicia Mariani.
Peter is an Appointed Director, appointed by the elected members of the board, along with Pamela Graham, the Business Events Tasmania Chair Person.
Claire and Peter join Ian Whitworth from Scene Change Tasmania as new members to the board. Ian was elected by the members of Business Events Tasmania at the AGM in October.
Peter CollynsPeter Collyns is the Regional General Manager Tasmania for Qantas. Now based in Hobart, Peter is responsible for the commercial operation across Tasmania. Prior to arriving here, Peter and his family were based in Melbourne where he ran the Victoria sales team.
He has a broad experience in aviation gained over the past 18 years in roles with British Airways, Flybe and Qantas. Peter has an excellent commercial background and brings with him a passion for successful selling, coaching teams and delivering great results.
Claire EllisDr Claire Ellis is the Director, Infrastructure and Industry Development, Tourism Tasmania. A key focus of Claire’s Unit is the facilitation of the Tasmanian tourism industry’s shift into the digital environment. Claire also is Chair of the National Long Term Tourism Strategy - Destination Management Planning Working Group.
Claire grew up in Tasmania, but also spent 14 years living and working overseas, mostly in Indonesia, Vietnam, China, USA, and within Australia in Perth, Darwin and Canberra as well as Tasmania. During this time Claire started and ran her own tourism businesses but also spent nearly three years working for the Indonesian office of the World Wide Fund for Nature, worked as a lecturer and consultant mostly in tourism and wrote two non-fiction books as well as numerous magazine articles.
Claire subsequently worked at the University of Tasmania lecturing in the Tourism Program, completing a PhD examining an area within volunteer tourism, before joining Tourism Tasmania.
