The Old Woolstore – a 242-room accommodation and conference facility located in central Hobart – triumphed against tough competition from all states and territories. It’s an achievement that operator Richard Sattler says reflects a successful culture and the hard work of associates who oversee day-to-day hotel operations.

“There is no doubt that the team at the Woolstore are crucial to the success of the property”, Mr Sattler said. “The ongoing consistency in occupancy and conference business is confirmation of the high standard of service that we strive to offer and it’s fantastic for this to be recognised at a national level.”

Mr Sattler has operated the property since its’ opening in February 1997, when the re-development of the old Roberts Ltd wool storage warehouses into a 118-room apartment hotel complex was completed. In October 2001, a further 124 apartments and major conference facilities were added, completing the project that now operates as an iconic Tasmanian tourism and hospitality provider.

In 2005, Sattler also opened the now famous Barnbougle Dunes golf links among towering sand dunes on his farming property at Bridport in Tasmania’s North-East. Barnbougle has consecutively been confirmed as Australia’s number one public access course and is currently rated the 35th best golf course in the world. Construction of the second course on adjacent land commenced during 2008.
