Solid Increase in Delegate Numbers In 2011
05-Apr-2012 | Latest Tasmanian Visitor Survey results for the year ending December 2011, showed delegates travelling to Tasmania to attend a conference or convention increased by 9%; that is 35,400 visitors compared to 32,500 for the corresponding year ending December 2010.
Also, for the quarter 01 October through to 31 December 2011 there was an increase of over 83% (a total of 15,000 delegates) over the same time in 2010.Additionally, there were increases across three quarters of the calendar year including a 15% increase in the April to June period over the same period in 2010.
CEO Stuart Nettlefold believes the significant increase is most important for the industry which is currently experiencing a difficult period with declining leisure visitor numbers. He also emphasised there is continued room for growth and Tasmania must keep its foot on the accelerator in selling and promoting Tasmania as a business events destination of choice.
